The Classic Theater of San Antonio was founded in 2008 by: Asia Ciaravino, Executive Director Asia joins the Classic Theatre with over 15 years of experience in Production, Special Event creation, Nonprofit Management and Marketing. Asia has also worked as a professional actor for over 25 years in Michigan, Texas and Minnesota. After graduating from college with a BA in theater from the University of the Incarnate Word, Asia started work in production where she created large scale events and shows. She began her events career in San Antonio working with Inner-City Games, Arnold Schwarzenegger's nonprofit organization that provided opportunities for inner-city youth to participate in sports of all kinds for free all summer. After years with the ICG organization she moved to Minneapolis where she ran the Special Events division for Dollars for Scholars, an organization that raised money for scholarships. Asia was also fortunate to work as an actor in Minneapolis. After experiencing the north for a few years, Asia decided to move back to San Antonio and started her work at The Magik Children's Theater where she joined the acting company and served as the Marketing/Development Director. Currently, Asia works for Our Lady of the Lake University.
Anthony Ciaravino, Co-Artistic Director Anthony has been seen on many stages across San Antonio. As a college student at the University of the Incarnate Word, Anthony studied acting under Richard and Karen Jones and was fortunate enough to also count Ronald Ibbs and Maureen Halligan as instructors. From UIW, he went on to earn an MFA in Acting from the professional actor training program at the University of Minnesota. Upon completion of his degree in 1996, he was one of three students chosen for an acting internship at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. Anthony worked at the Guthrie for the next 6 seasons. Representative roles at the Guthrie include DemetriusA Midsummer Night’s Dream, Don John in Much Ado About Nothing, Trouble/ Doctor in In the Blood, and Chamberlain in The Invention of Love. Among the roles Anthony has played in San Antonio are Hamlet, Romeo, and Macbeth. His directing credits include productions of Sylvia, Resurrection Blues (Arthur Miller’s final20play and the Southwest premiere) and Romeo and Juliet. He also directed San Antonio’s Shakespeare in the Park productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth. Anthony’s teaching credits include a stint as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota. He has also taught acting workshops at the Guthrie Theater and a stage combat course at UIW. Currently, he is in charge of the Theater Arts curriculum in the Upper School at Keystone School.
Diane Malone, Co- Artistic Director The former Artistic Director of San Antonio’s Church Theatre, she has also served as director and/or designer for theatres in Germany, Louisiana, Indiana and Washington, DC. She was founding Artistic Director of Broad Ripple Theatre Centre in IndianapolisPhoenix Theatre) and WordStage in Arlington, VA, and Artistic Director of Theatre-on-the-Hill in Maryland, the Baton Rouge Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and the American Theatre in Stuttgart, Germany. She received a Master’s Degree in Theatre, with Directing emphasis, from Arizona State University, and did post-graduate work in Theatre at Texas Tech and Indiana University. She has taught speech and theatre at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis; Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC; and locally at the University of the Incarnate Word, St. Mary’s University and Our Lady of the Lake University. Rick Malone, Technical Director In a career spanning more than 40 years, he has served as Technical Director, Lighting Designer and Sound Designer for theatres in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California, Indiana, the Washington, D.C. area and Germany. His Sound Designs have been displayed at The Prague Quadrennial Exposition of Scenography in 2003(Anne Frank) and 2007(Macbeth). In 2005, his sound design for The Diary of Anne Frank was selected to be shown in the Gallery at the World Stage Design Expoin Toronto. He holds a BA in Theatre and a M. Ed. in Administration and Management from Texas Tech University and is a Senior member of USITT, the professional association for theatre designers, educators and technicians.
Allan S. Ross, Co-Artistic Director The former Director of Theatre at San Antonio College now holds the position of Professor Emeritus of Theatre. He has forty years of teaching experience at the college level. He has a BA degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, a Master’s degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and post-graduate studies at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and Texas State University, San Marcos, TX. He was a co-founder and Artistic Director of the Summer Repertory Company, a resident director of the Plaza Dinner Theatre and La Hacienda Dinner Theatre in San Antonio. He was the director of the Children’s opera series for the San Antonio Symphony. As well as directing for San Antonio College he has been a guest directed at San Pedro Playhouse, Fort Sam Houston Playhouse, The Cellar Theatre, Off-Stage Theatre, Music Theatre Inc. The Sheldon Vexler Theatre and the University of the Incarnate Word. He has been honored for his work in education and theatre by being Named Educator of the Year for Community Colleges and has been given The Jasmina Wellingholf Award for special contributions to theatre in San Antonio and the Founders Award for contributions to theatre in Texas.
Terri Peña Ross, Education Director Terri received her BA in Theatre from the University of Texas-Austin and the Master’s degree in Theatre from Southwest Texas (now Texas State University). She taught theatre in San Antonio public schools for 25 years. She has appeared on many local stages and has received multiple awards for Excellence in Acting. A workshop presenter in the UIL unit in creative dramatics, theatre games, characterization, improvisation and storytelling, she will also be presenting similar workshops for ArtsTeach, the artist-in-schools program of San Antonio Arts.
